No Left Overs

You can do this too, it doesn't even have to be sweets.

The Bake Sale was a success this past Saturday, and  the outcome was fruitful and it multiplied in the donation jar.  We made $1200.00 and I'd say that's not shabby at all, especially since we're talking cupcakes and cookies.

lots of goodies
There was a fair amount of foot traffic, I really thought there would be a lot more due to the Christmas Parade.    It was a long day, and by using this as a what to do and not to do next time around-- I learned a lot.
happy with choc. cupcakes
We had quite a few left overs, many people were on their way to somewhere and didn't want to take the sweets or they were watching their girlish figure.  Anyways, all was appreciated regardless.

a Happy Family and customer
I decided to send some of the leftovers to a local nursing home and found out a few days later how happy they were to receive desserts that weren't the same ole processed things they eat all the time.  The other half went to benefit  a non profit called OYA ; which is a safe place for the GLB Community youth, this was used for their Christmas party.

I'm so glad so many people were touched by this act originally designated for NO KID HUNGRY, Share our Strength, The Great American Bake Sale.
Someone asked me while my feet were throbbing, and my stomach was growling if I"d ever do this again, I thought about a similar question after giving birth,  I thought they were crazy, but right now, it could happen, not for a long time, but it could.

We need to remember to donate to NO KID HUNGRY even after the tables are folded, the crumbs are swept, and the the crowds are gone.

NO KID HUNGRY

NO KID HUNGRY...

...is a National organization, because it's a national problem and it involves our children/kids/little ones/little adults in short clothing, etc......

You should get the picture.  This NO KID HUNGRY is focusing on OUR kids here in AMERICA.

We know there are kids in other countries without food, we seem to see it and hear it even more so. And this isn't to diminish the needs of those children. We've heard about those children at our own dinner tables, especially if we didn't eat those green beans sitting in front of us.  Generally, what we didn't hear about was the starving kids here in America.  Not just a few of them,  but lots of them.   Maybe there are kids in your own neighborhood who have gone to bed hungry.  This isn't something saved for "certain" neighborhoods, this is a widespread epidemic.

Especially so due to the economy.

SOME OF THE ORGANIZATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CAUSE WILL MATCH YOUR DONATIONS. LIKE THE SUGAR COMPANIES, ETC.

NEXT MONTH I'M HOLDING "THE GREAT AMERICAN BAKE SALE" IN MY COMMUNITY, TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE.

I'LL CHECK BACK LATER AND UPDATE WITH PHOTOS AND LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WENT.

IN THE MEANTIME.......visit their website, see how you can help, and see how this cause benefits your own community.

Meanwhile, Take the Pledge

Share our Strength The Great American Bake Sale

Let's help end childhood hunger in the USA.

I decided to take on the task of holding a bake sale to raise money for the title cause, and to start now due to the overwhelming amount of tasks that lie ahead  in the months to come.

I know it's a little odd that I'm adding this bit of info after the last post.  But this is way different.
I'm have no plans of  baking ,there are others ready willing and able.
I know this guy, who has a big heart for certain causes and he's no novice when it comes to fundraising.  He was nominated for the Jefferson Award,  a few years back.   That's a very big deal, but he's very low key kind of guy when he does help.   I told him what I was planning to do and thankfully, it didn't take any convincing.  It was  the kids, not me.  I'm very okay with that, that's why I'm doing it too.  I'm very happy to say Gary Lambert Salon,   is helping with this cause.
He was one of the first to join a pilot program for cancer patients called “Look Good, Feel Better.” More than two decades later, he’s still donating products and services to women devastated not only by the way cancer makes them feel, but also how it makes them look. He was awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award for his efforts.     -original article written by Tom Dyer (full article)

If you're interested in making a donation, ( link to site below) then all I can say is Thank you So Much.
The actual day of the bake sale hasn't been determined as of yet, although we do know the month,  and it will be held  in December.  That's the beauty of this cause, you can go online and donate anytime, you don't really have to be there or consume calories.

The website  available for the cause accommodates those, like myself, willing to  help by providing you with your own web page and all kinds of other neat stuff to make it easier to focus on the bake sale and keep everything straight.    Isn't that great?

Here's the link ( my page)  for Share our Strength The Great American Bake Sale, - The Land of Sweets.
Just know this.  You never know who is without food.  It could be your neighbor, the kid that sits next your yours in school or who you pass on  the street.
It's great to help those all over the world, but this time we get to help those here in America.  This is  just as huge.

If you're interested in helping to end childhood hunger in America,  at any time of year it's an easy process to sign up.
What better way to meet new people, make money for a great cause, and to have a great excuse to buy chocolate.
Smile.

I got'er done..lol

I had to do a little touch up of the Sistine Chapel, I really wanted to bake you a cake..I will.... really, when did you say you needed it?

I was gonna bake you a pie because I like your face..but ...I ..I  had   to climb.. Mt. Everest,  yeah,  and.and.. then I hadda go to school.yeah..yeah that's it,  that's the ticket..I was gonna !

My good intentions have wanned on many occasions.

cream filled choc.cupcakes
I  believe it (my good intentions) happened when I couldn't give more of me..when my knee started failing a few years back and I just couldn't function like I used to.
It started when I had taken some orders, one for a wedding cake and another for a  large function for some finger type desserts scheduled for the very next day. What was I thinking, obviously I wasn't..I was trying to please everyone.  I paid dearly for that.
Cloning is way underrated, I didn't have another me.  I was pushed to the melting point ( it was hot out) even though I orchestrated each movement...but I got tired, I hurt and I got frustrated.  Things seemed to take a turn sometime after that...and then the "barn door was opened for  a choice few turning my  "good intentions"  into a field day with every cake I said or thought I was gonna bake.
Marble Cake-Mango/Blueberry filling
Cream
Cheese frosting
Evidently they had been salivating from lack of baked goods I didn't produce.

Let me say this, I've discovered  baking is something I like to do when I want to do it and if I have time, it doesn't hold court over me and no amount of cajoling or butter is going to make me want to bake. I used to bake like a fiend and at one time had hoped to be a pastry chef--can you say passionate..I had IT, but I do it because I want to.

Yesterday I wanted to, I started making cakes...and the day of I was gonna ...has just ended.  I hope to not say I'll do something unless it is "gonna" happen. lol. I can only hope.

white cake, pineapple,
coconut, w.cream
I'll be delivering them tomorrow, I don't care if they are on diets, I don't care if there is enough to go around or too much, I'm doing this to settle a score and a fun one at that.  I still have one more item to make, a pie..pumpkin no less..in February, doesn't seem right..
Do I think the teasing will stop?
No, not from this crowd,  not a bit.

BTW, I delivered the goodies...and shock was written on their faces.. giggle giggle...

A Whirlwind

Lately my days have gone whirring by. I'm clip clopping  along with my schoolbooks and a question on my brow.  I seem to have that look all the time now since I started school.  Be that as it may, busy has replaced what my parents gave me for a middle name.

I'm still technically challenged, like stirring muddy waters because the more I learn the more I have questions and the more confused I am.  But I look forward to knowing more, muddy or not.  I live for an a ha moment.!!

niece Athenia
I've made some discoveries in the past year besides and because of acquiring new hardware (knee) that sets off the alarms at the airport.  I've been reacquainted with a niece I haven't seen in 20+ years.  She was 6 or 7 last time I saw her, we were both nervous and happy to see each other again.  We have hopes for a closer future even though we both are very busy.  I have another niece as well,  I was able to connect with  about 3 or 4 years ago and it is ongoing from a distance and I'm grateful for that.

I've started putting together a family tree, not so much for myself but for future generations.  That's not to say I don't have questions because I do.  Ancestry .com has an area where you can just start a family tree.  So I did.  It is basic in it's format and  if you dig a little deeper it can get a little more in depth, if you want it too.
 niece Erica
There's been other things, sewing, hosting a bake sale for Share our Strength, The Great American Bake Sale, things like that.  But right now some of those things are being set aside, I have a tendency lately to say yes to everything and then find out the hard way how  exhausted I am..  It's been that way since my knee surgery.  It's been a slow climb and since I found myself dangling from the top a few weeks ago,so to speak,  it's time to take a break, kick back and do what's necessary,  for now.  Completing some of these fun things will be accomplished in due time and if they aren't..it isn't any big deal.

I've discovered little things about me and will continue to.  So if the coffee table is beckoning me to dust it, I will, but first I'll make that cup of tea cut a slice of cake, sit down with a good book relax for awhile and then do it.  Life is much too short to fret over dust or anything else. for that matter....
