A Wearing Affair

This has been posted more than once but since the Holidays are upon us, it might cause us to pause and think before we stuff and stuff.Enjoy!
Cookies, Biscuits, Cakes and Tarts. Pies, Betty's, Cobblers, Scones, Shortbreads, Éclairs, Napoleons, Ladyfingers. To what thanks do I owe these lovelies?
I share with them all that I am, my hips and thighs and my once weightless gait and now I'm waiting on my gaits to catch up with the rest of me.
Why is it I dream of them with reckless abandon and no self control and how have they become my lover instead of the tall dark and handsome? As sad as this is, I know I am not alone. There are many meeting this sweet lover that rests his or her hands on our waists and hips and promise us endless pleasures, but I know they only last so long as the taste lingers on lips and tongues and then they are gone. What a sinful pleasure and we know it isn't right, a love affair that is not what we had hoped it would be.
How do we end this meeting of flavors and sights that tease the eyes with sparkle and fluff?
Will it end, will we kiss the delicate layers goodbye before the evil of it all takes over?
I try to envision the corners of Betty drying up and Napoleon withering next to dear Ladyfinger, and all that was good is now dead and dying, but wait, out of the corner of my eye.. I caught a glimpse of something glimmering brimming with health and resurrection….I'll visit that vision in time, but now I have to get back to Napoleon, he is waiting...

No Left Overs

You can do this too, it doesn't even have to be sweets.

The Bake Sale was a success this past Saturday, and  the outcome was fruitful and it multiplied in the donation jar.  We made $1200.00 and I'd say that's not shabby at all, especially since we're talking cupcakes and cookies.

lots of goodies
There was a fair amount of foot traffic, I really thought there would be a lot more due to the Christmas Parade.    It was a long day, and by using this as a what to do and not to do next time around-- I learned a lot.
happy with choc. cupcakes
We had quite a few left overs, many people were on their way to somewhere and didn't want to take the sweets or they were watching their girlish figure.  Anyways, all was appreciated regardless.

a Happy Family and customer
I decided to send some of the leftovers to a local nursing home and found out a few days later how happy they were to receive desserts that weren't the same ole processed things they eat all the time.  The other half went to benefit  a non profit called OYA ; which is a safe place for the GLB Community youth, this was used for their Christmas party.

MY Apple Zucchini Oatmeal Bread
I'm so glad so many people were touched by this act originally designated for NO KID HUNGRY, Share our Strength, The Great American Bake Sale.
Someone asked me while my feet were throbbing, and my stomach was growling if I"d ever do this again, I thought about a similar question after giving birth,  I thought they were crazy, but right now, it could happen, not for a long time, but it could.

Choc. cc's, choc ganache frost., jam ctr.,  Pastry Chef of Grand Cypress
We need to remember to donate to NO KID HUNGRY even after the tables are folded, the crumbs are swept, and the the crowds are gone.

I can't wait for Labor Day already

In another week I'll start to feel like I did when I was a kid. Sort of....  School will begin again and I'll be cramming my head with all sorts of geeky stuff. Of course I have a long road before that actually happens.
I really can't wait to call up things in my memory bank at a moments notice like it's nothing.  I have no problem being a full fledged geek.

I really want to be good at something that doesn't cause cholesterol.  Baking is alright but there are too many ingredients and I personally haven't been able to break even trying to make any money from it.  I'm not a food network star and have no desire to be and I also HATE making cupcakes.  I'd rather poke my eye than to make 43 different little cakes especially when I can make just one and be done with it. I don't understand what the big deal is.  It is a step down from making cookies but I have found other ways around that..

Anyway with that said I need to cram next week and do everything I should have done or want to do and make it count.
I didn't get my windows washed or my carpet cleaned, ugh, but I do feel better knowing since it is raining right now  it would have been a waste anyway, the window part, kinda like cleaning the car and then it rains.
I need to make some pillows and do two papers so I can be ahead of the game before school. Oh the pillows have nothing to do with school, lol.   I have an eighth of that started, the paper.   I suppose it wouldn't hurt to read my Dreamweaver book again either but if I don't accomplish all those things the earth won't shake and the cookie can crumble it's quite okay, as for now my feet are resting quite nicely from a day of volunteering and all is right with the world.
